Digital Detox

Shape1 Shape2

Let’s be real! Being tech savvy is NOT about catching up with the latest gadgets or technology. It is also definitely not about catching up with every new posts in social media nor is it about following many famous “influencers”.

As we progress into a more advanced digital era powered by artificial intelligence (AI), we really must ask ourselves how much AI we should allow to enter into our lives. If we become overly dependent on AI, do we not risk ourselves to being ruled by technologies?

That brings us to the point of how your smart devices can offer much convenience and connectivity. But do you truly understand how to harness the benefits of ubiquitous technology? If you desire to be a tech savvy digital user, you must truly understand how to utilize technology mindfully while being aware of pitfalls.

For example, we may certainly utilize productivity apps to organize our life but overreliance on apps have proven to dull our cognitive brain functions. The mental prowess in your mind is actually more powerful than algorithms in apps but you must stimulate and train your mind for it to reach its potential.

Are you sure you want to embrace technology into all aspects of your life?

How To Get Started With Digital Detox

Nevertheless, as technology is constantly evolving, it is imperative that we become more tech savvy rather than tech-ignorant. Love or hate it, technological transformations will impact some of our routines in working and personal life, directly or subtly.

While technology can certainly enhance our lives in many ways, it is crucial to set tech-free times. Offline times should be used to engage in healthy physical activities or casual human interactions. Why not try to go for a run, do some deadlifts at the gym or go cycling outdoors WITHOUT any gadgets? In this way, you can boost your physical health as well as digital detox for a while.

Always bear in mind that technology is just a tool and tools should not dictate what you do with your life. Our world hates dictators but it seems like most of us do not realize that technologies can dictate our lives too. So beware of overdependence on any tool that can subtly enslave you to it without you being aware of it.

Social media addiction is one of those subtle phenomenon that has gravely affected people of all ages. Therefore, will our own actions give rise to another unhealthy form of technological attachment if we allow AI-powered social companions to proliferate without boundaries?

Therefore, learn to set boundaries between fascination and idolizing. By thoughtfully integrating technology in your daily life, you can enjoy its myriad of advantages without becoming overwhelmed.

Be a Ruthless Tech Master If Necessary

Although it is true that computers are superior than mankind in some ways, however it does not mean we should idolize technology or be totally dependent on technologies for every aspect of our lives. Instead, we should be ruthless towards technology like a hard master; meaning the device should obey what we command it to do.

For example, we all know computers are better than us in terms of mathematical calculations, looking up for information, and now with AI chatbots, even doing some of the thinking for us. But do we not readily throw out or replace our computers once it becomes outdated or useless? Love and care should be given to real human beings and animals that deserve it but AI are mere devices that only mimic human emotions.

So even when our personal computers and laptops evolve into humanoid robots, we should still always regard them as just machines. When the machines become redundant, we should just get them replaced with better ones.
